Le mercredi 21 juin 2023, Le ministère américain de l’Argriculture ( USDA) a en effet autorisé pour la première fois, la vente de viande de poulet cultivée en laboratoire par deux entreprises.
Après le Singapour les états-Unis est le deuxieme pays avoir adopté la vente de la viande artificielle. Ce mercredi 21 juin 2023, l’USDA, le ministère de l’Agriculture outre-Atlantique a approuvé la vente de deux viandes de poulet cultivée en laboratoire. Et cela grâce à deux entreprises : Upside Foods et Good Meat. Le ministère a aussi inspecté et approuvé les systèmes de sécurité sanitaire de leurs infrastructures.
« Cette autorisation historique signifie que le poulet de l’entreprise, qui est fabriqué directement à partir de cellules animales, peut dorénavant être vendu aux consommateurs américains », écrit la société Good Meat dans un communiqué.
En un mot, pour fabriquer cette viande, les entreprises prélèvent un échantillon de cellules, et les placent dans un bioréacteur. Dedans, les cellules sont nourris avec des nutriments : protéines, graisses, minéraux et vitamines. Les cellules se multiplient, grandissent comme dans le corps de l’animal, et deviennent tissus et muscles.
« Cette autorisation va fondamentalement changer la manière dont la viande atterrit sur nos tables », a affirmé Uma Valeti, PDG et fondateur d’Upside Foods, qui a aussi salué « un pas de géant vers un avenir plus durable » dans un communiqué. Josh Tetrick, cofondateur et PDG d’Eat Just, l’entreprise derrière Good Meat, s’est lui réjoui que la viande cultivée en laboratoire soit désormais « autorisée à la vente dans la première puissance mondiale ». Sa société a été la première à recevoir l’autorisation de commercialiser de la viande artificielle à Singapour en 2020.
Une récente étude de l’Université de Californie à Davis, qui n’a pas encore été examinée par d’autres scientifiques, a ainsi montré que toutes les phases de production de la viande de laboratoire nécessitaient beaucoup d’énergie et émettaient une grande quantité de gaz à effet de serre.
