Sur le total touché, 1,8 million sont en situation d’urgence , un chiffre supérieur à l’analyse des trois dernières années, selon les chiffres de la Classification intégrée de la sécurité alimentaire par phases (CIF), cités par la FAO, dans un communiqué.
Cela signifie, selon les informations ajoutées, que les ménages sont confrontés à de grandes carences qui entraînent une malnutrition aiguë élevée et une surmortalité, ou sont contraints d’adopter des mécanismes d’adaptation négatifs pour couvrir leurs besoins alimentaires, tels que la vente de leurs actifs productifs ou la consommation de semences au lieu de les planter, ce qui augmente leur vulnérabilité.
Avec 75 % de la population haïtienne vivant dans des zones rurales, « des mesures urgentes sont nécessaires pour sauver des vies et restaurer rapidement les moyens de subsistance agricoles des agriculteurs vulnérables », a-t-il déclaré.
Dans le cadre du Plan de réponse humanitaire 2023, la FAO a demandé 61,7 millions de dollars pour aider 700 000 personnes à améliorer leur accès à la nourriture.
