Un groupe d’environ 30 migrants haïtiens , 21 hommes, neuf femmes et un enfant de moins de 2 ans, ont été arrêtés alors qu’ils tentaient d’arriver illégalement sur les îles Turques et Caïques , ont rapporté ce samedi 20 mai 2023 les autorités locales.
Selon les autorités locales, ils ont été alertés par les garde-côtes américains et le bureau des douanes et de la protection des frontières au sujet d’un navire suspect approchant de Providenciales.
Ces haïtiens ont été interpellés vendredi soir à 96 kilomètres au sud-est de Providenciales, au sud-ouest du territoire caribéen, selon les informations offertes par la Royal Turks and Caicos Police Force.
Les immigrants ont été emmenés ce samedi matin dans un port sûr et remis aux autorités de l’immigration des îles Turques et Caïques pour une procédure régulière.
D’après le rapport de la police locale, depuis le 1er janvier de cette année, elle a détenu un total de 1 792 migrants qui ont tenté d’atteindre le territoire.
