En collaboration avec des organisations de presse et institutions investies de la mission de défendre les droits et libertés des citoyennes et citoyens, l’Association des Journalistes Haïtiens (AJH), a annoncé ce mardi 16 Mai 2023, la création d’une Commission Nationale d’Éthique Journalistique (CONEJ), afin de contrôler, sanctionner les fautes éthiques graves des journalistes.
En effet, la mission de base de la CONEJ visera à analyser, débattre et sanctionner «des violations et fautes éthiques graves reprochés à des journalistes et autres travailleurs de la presse, dans l’exercice de leur profession.» Et ses considérations et recommandations se feront sur les termes du code de déontologie des médias et des journalistes d’Haïti et de la charte d’Éthique Mondiale des Journalistes.
Cette décision viserait à responsabiliser les efforts des journalistes et travailleurs de la presse, à l’égard des règles de conduite du profession, d’après l’AJH et SOS Journaliste. Selon eux, la création de la CONEJ entre dans le cadre «d’un processus d’autorégulation indispensable à un exercice responsable de la liberté de la presse et d’expression.»
Parallèlement, elles ont précisé que la CONEJ installera un comité régional dans chaque département pour «faciliter la collecte des plaintes et la divulgation des règles éthiques que doivent suivre les journalistes pratiquants.»
Il est à souligner que la première journée de travail de la CONEJ se tiendra le samedi 24 Juin 2023 et qu’un guide opérationnel sera publié bientôt.
