L’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) a levé ce vendredi 5 mai 2023, l’urgence internationale due à la pandémie de Covid-19, déclarée depuis le 30 janvier 2020, compte tenu de la réduction notable des cas graves et des décès dans le monde.
La décision a été annoncée par le directeur général de l’OMS, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, après que le comité d’urgence de l’organisation s’est réuni le jeudi 4 mai 2023, pour analyser la situation actuelle de la pandémie, qui en plus de trois ans a touché au moins 765 millions de personnes et a provoqué la mort d’environ 20 millions.
Notons que depuis le début de l’année, le nombre d’infections au Covid et de décès signalés est en baisse dans le monde : la dernière semaine d’avril, l’OMS a confirmé 630 000 cas dans le monde et 3 500 morts, alors qu’en janvier, il y avait plus de 1,3 million de cas positifs et que le 14 000 morts, en partie à cause de la vague en Chine.
