La Russie, par son vice-ministre russe des Affaires étrangères, a annoncé ce lundi 3 avril 2023 être sur le point de renforcer ses capacités militaires près de l’Europe orientale et de la Finlande. Ce, la vielle de l’adhésion de cette dernière à l’OTAN.
« Nous renforcerons nos capacités militaires à l’ouest et au nord-ouest », a indiqué le ministre russe, Alexandre Grouchko, cité par l’agence de presse russe Ria Novosti. Il a précisé en outre : « En cas de déploiement de forces et de moyens d’autres membres de l’Otan sur le territoire finlandais, nous prendrons des mesures supplémentaires pour assurer de manière fiable la sécurité militaire de la Russie ».
La Finlande et la Suède sont deux pays européens qui ont appliqué jusque-là une politique de non-alignement, depuis 1990. Ils ont demandé leur adhésion à l’Organisation Traité de l’Atlantique Nord en raison de l’invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie, trois mois plus tard.
Par ailleurs, la Russie a annoncé la fin du mois dernier qu’elle va d’acheminer des armes nucléaires « stratégiques » sur son territoire. En conformité avec sa nouvelle ligne de politique internationale qui définit l’Occident comme une « menace existentielle ». Et l’élargissement de l’OTAN en est, à leurs yeux, l’un des symptômes.
