Les États-Unis sont frappés par une impétueuse tempête de froid pour les fêtes de Noël, où 17 personnes sont déjà décédées et environ 530 000 de maisons se trouvent sans électricité. Cette tempête a provoqué des vents polaires, qui ont suscité des chutes de neige dans le nord du pays, dont la région des Grands lacs.

À cause de cette tempête, selon le ministre des transports américain, Pete Buttigieg, qui a réagi sur Twitter, plus de 5 500 vols ont été reportés le vendredi 23 décembre, soit 20% du trafic aérien.
