Dans la nuit du samedi 1 au dimanche 2 octobre 2022, 174 personnes sont mortes en Indonésie dans une « émeute » en marge d’un match de football entre Arema FC et Persebaya Surabaya. Encore, 180 autres personnes sont sorties blessées.
Ce samedi soir, le secteur sportif a connu l’une des plus inquiétantes catastrophes dans son histoire. En effet, au moins 174 personnes ont été tuées en Indonésie dans une bousculade déclenchée par des supporters envahissant un terrain de football après un match, ont annoncé les autorités ce dimanche 2 octobre 2022, dans un pays où la rivalité des supporters s’est souvent transformée en catastrophe.
Des supporters de l’Arema FC ont envahi le terrain du Kanjuruhan Stadium, dans la ville de Malang (est), après la défaite de leur équipe (3-2) face à Persebaya Surabaya. C’était la première fois en plus de vingt ans que l’Arema FC s’inclinait face à sa grande rivale, lit-on sur RMC Sport.
En qualifiant l’incident d « émeute », la police a tenté de persuader les fans de retourner dans les tribunes et a fait usage de gaz lacrymogènes après la mort de deux officiers. De nombreuses victimes ont été piétinées à mort, toujours selon les informations de RMC Sport.
« Lors de l’incident, 127 personnes sont mortes, dont deux policiers. Trente-quatre personnes sont mortes à l’intérieur du stade et les autres sont mortes à l’hôpital », a déclaré le chef de la police locale dans un communiqué, Nico Afinta.
À la suite de ces incidents, le président indonésien Joko Widodo a annoncé l’ouverture d’une enquête sur la sécurité des matchs de football en Indonésie. Le ministre des Sports et de la Jeunesse, la police nationale et le chef de l’Association nationale indonésienne de football doivent mener « une évaluation complète des matches de football et des procédures de sécurité », a-t-il déclaré dans une allocution télévisée.
