Haïti-Séïsme : Un lourd bilan, Plus de 50 millions dollars sont mobilisés pour les sinistrés.

5 jours après le séisme du 14 août, le directeur de la protection civile, Jerry Chandler a fait un court bilan , ce mercredi des activités réalisées par la DPC. A date, la Protection civile a enregistré 2 189 morts, 12 268 blessés
332 personnes portées disparues,
52 953 maisons détruites
et 77 066 maisons endommagées. Les recherches des survivants sous les décombres se poursuivent, a indiqué M. Chandler qui explique que les blessés graves ont déjà été évacués à Port-au-Prince, Mirebalais et dans d’autres centres spécialisés.

Concernant la distribution et la canalisation des aides humanitaires aux sinistrés, Jerry Chandler informe que toutes les dispositions sont prises pour toucher les plus démunis. M. Chandler dit avoir déjà pris contact avec les autorités locales des zones les plus reculées pour acheminer les assistances humanitaires. « Ceux qui ne sont pas encore entrer en contact avec la DPC, doivent emboiter le pas », a affirmé le numéro1 de la protection civile qui rappelle que tous les contacts de l’institution sont joignables sur leur site web www.protectioncivilehaiti.net. Reconnaissant qu’il y a effectivement un retard dans la distribution de l’aide aux sinistrés, Jerry Chandler explique que c’est notamment parce que c’est un travail qui mérite beaucoup plus d’organisation.

L’UE dans un communiqué de presse, dit avoir alloué 3 millions d’euros de financement humanitaire à Haïti. Laquelle somme est censée répondre aux besoins les plus urgents des départements affectées, à savoir la Grand’Anse, le sud et les Nippes. L’ONU, pour sa part, a mobilisé 8 millions de dollars US du Fonds central d’intervention d’urgence pour fournir des soins de santé essentiels, de l’eau potable, des abris d’urgence et des installations sanitaires à toutes les personnes touchées par ce séisme. Taiwan quant à lui, avait annoncé, dans un communiqué, une aide humanitaire d’urgence de 500 mille dollars US au gouvernement haïtien afin d’aider le pays à relever les défis immédiats.
C’est Le programme d’assurance contre les risques de catastrophe en Amérique Centrale qui a sorti le plus gros chèque pour l’heure. Une indemnité d’assurance d’une valeur de 40 millions de dollars américains va rejoindre le gouvernement haïtien en vue de répondre aux besoins auxquels le pays fait face.  Les polices d’assurance étant paramétriques, le CCRIF a annoncé qu’une première tranche de 15 millions de dollars américains sera versée au gouvernement dans la semaine suivant l’événement et le montant restant, environ 25 millions de dollars américains dans la fenêtre de 14 jour.

Par ailleurs, dans un communiqué en date du 17 aout, L’UNICEF a affirmé pour repondre aux besoins les plus urgents d’au moins 385.000 personnes, dont 167.000 enfants de moins de cinq ans, pendant une période de huit semaines. Il faudra au pays 15 millions de dollars.
