Quarante-huit voyageurs clandestins haïtiens interceptés au large de Porto Rico

Quarante-huit Haïtiens dont vingt-six hommes et vingt-deux femmes ont été interceptés par des garde-côtes américains au large de l’île de Porto Rico. Ces compatriotes haïtiens abandonnés par leurs passeurs, ont reçu l’assistance des secouristes, a indiqué la garde côtière à travers un communiqué.

Des garde-côtes américains ont arrêté un groupe d’Haïtiens qui tentent de se rendre à Porto Rico en toute clandestinité.  Voguant sur le canal de Mona, plus précisément à l’îlot Cayo Monito, les quarante-huit voyageurs haïtiens  se trouvaient en grande difficulté et ont appelé au secours. C’est à partir de ce moment que des sauteurs américains ont été dépêchés pour les secourir, a précisé ce  communiqué publié ce vendredi par les services des garde-côtes américains.

Soutenus par les forces de police du Porto Rico, les garde-côtes américains ont utilisé le navire Winslow Griesser et l’hélicoptère MH-6OT Jayhawk pour mener cette opération de sauvetage.  À encore le communiqué,  les quarante-huit compatriotes haïtiens qui s’abritaient dans une falaise et dans des grottes sur l’îlot Cayo Monito, ont été transportés à Mayagüez, dans l’ouest de Porto Rico d’un autre navire. Ils ont été reçus par des agents de la protection des frontières étasuniennes sur l’île portoricaine pour y bénéficier une assistance médicale.

Selon les responsables des services de secours américains, cette opération de sauvetage n’a pas été facile et les secouristes ont dû déployer un grand effort pour sauver les voyageurs clandestins haïtiens qui ont été en grande difficulté au large du canal de Mona. Ces compatriotes se trouvent hors de danger, doivent être rapatriés sous peu.
