Un prêtre a été retrouvé mort assassiné ce lundi 9 août 2021 dans la commune de Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre, a une vingtaine de kilomètres de la ville de Cholet. L’assassin présumé qui a été déjà sous contrôle judiciaire pour l’incendie de la cathédrale de Nantes à l’été 2020, s’est rendu à la gendarmerie de Mortagne-sur-Sèvre suite après le drame.
À Vendée en France, un homme a tué un prêtre catholique avant de se livrer à la gendarmerie locale. C’est le ministre de l’Intérieur français, Gérald Darmaninqui a annoncé la nouvelle sur compte Twitter, ce lundi, peu avant la demi-journée. L’homme politique a évoqué le crapuleux assassinat de ce prêtre et adressé ses sympathies à la communauté de l’église catholique de son pays. Le ministre a également annoncé qu’il se rendait sur les lieux au cours de la journée.
Selon les informations relayées par BFMTV qui cite des sources policières « le corps de l’homme de foi a été retrouvé dans la commune de Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre, a une vingtaine de kilomètres de la ville de Cholet. Il semble qu’il a reçu plusieurs coups qui ont entraîné sa mort ». La victime est identifié au nom d’Olivier Maire, a précisé Bruno Retailleau, le sénateur de Vendée qui considère la mort du curé comme « une grande perte ».
À en croire une source proche du dossier citée par BFMTV, « l’assassin présumé s’est rendu à la gendarmerie de Mortagne-sur-Sèvre ces dernières heures pour avouer le meurtre ». Toujours fut-il souligner selon cette même source, « le suspect est par ailleurs placé sous contrôle judiciaire dans le cadre de l’enquête sur l’incendie de la cathédrale de Nantes en juillet 2020 ». Ce sacristain d’origine rwandaise, chargé de fermer la porte de la cathédrale a été à l’époque interpellé par la police puis incarcéré pendant plusieurs mois. Mais celui-ci a été par la suite libéré sous surveillance judiciaire en attendant son procès après avoir fait des aveux révélant qu’il a été lui-même à l’origine de l’incendie de la cathédrale.
En dépit de sa surveillance judiciaire, le suspect de 39 ans « était accueilli depuis plusieurs mois par était accueilli depuis plusieurs mois par la communauté des Montfortains – présidée par le prêtre assassiné ce lundi – où le corps du prêtre a été retrouvé », a rapporté BFMTV.
